It is always exciting to see fence designs come to life for our customers! Brody Barger assisted this homeowner in the Silver Spring, MD area with his vision for replacing the existing chain link with something more private and aesthetic. They settled on cedar solid board style for the side yard and trash bin enclosure, and “classic” style picket fencing to extend out from the house across the walkway.
“This was a full back yard remodel that was overseen by a landscape designer who I really enjoyed working with. The designer had pretty much everything planned out and just needed to tune the connections where the different styles met which we did on a site visit with the customer. We came into the project right after the majority of the back yard remodel was completed. This included new hardscaping, a new timber retaining wall, a bunch of new plantings, and of course the fence. Now that the fence is complete the rest of the soil conditioning, sod, and plantings can be completed.” – Brody Barger, Fence Co. sales representative

Cedar Solid Board Fence
The majority of the fencing on this spotlight project is solid board, but it is also so much more! Firstly, the sections are teco-clipped onto the posts allowing the posts to be exposed on either side of the fence. This is in contrast to a face-nailed fence where the posts would be covered on one side by fence boards. Additionally, the posts on this fence are all 6 x 6’s, quite larger and more substantial than the usual 4×4’s used on a solid board fence. This fence also features top and bottom trim boards, a middle runner, and a cap board on the top of each section. To complete the design, each post is fitted with a high pyramid style wood post cap.

Cedar Classic Picket Fence
Classic pickets are much smaller than the more commonly used contemporary pickets. Popularity of the classic picket fence has been down in recent years; but we have noticed that it may be making a slight comeback. On this specific project, the 2”x2” classic pickets are sandwiched between top and bottom runners. 6×6 posts and high pyramid post caps make this style blend well with the solid board portion of the project.
