Product Review-Welded Wire High-Security Fencing

Welded wire security fencing is just about as top of the line as you can find in the security fencing market today; an exceptionally well-made, high-grade steel fence that suits a variety of high-security needs. Learn all about this commercial style of fence, why it works, and which applications we would recommend its use for in today’s blog . . .

High-Security Design

Today’s featured fence is comprised of heavy 6ga galvanized steel wire, welded together in a 2”x6” grid pattern. Panels are available in 4’, 5’, 6’, and 8’ tall. V-folds increase the durability and strength of this design from all directions. Each individual panel is bracketed to heavy duty steel C-posts or square posts, which are cemented at a 36” depth (minimum). Welded wire fencing is impervious to trespassers because it is extremely difficult to climb and the heavy-duty wire is almost impossible to cut through using commonplace hand or power tools.

Aesthetics

There are several color options available on the market including black, green, brown, bronze, and sand. Choose a color that allows the fence to blend in or make an architectural statement as desired. The low-profile characteristic of this design lends itself to high visibility for sport fields and complexes. A PermaCoat protective finish is applied not only to prolong the life of the steel material but also to ensure this fence looks great for years and years to come.

Ideal Applications

Welded wire security fencing is perfect for most large-scale commercial applications including parks and sports complexes, government facilities, schools, storage centers, and solar panel fields. Even your residence can benefit from the high security qualities of welded wire fencing. Gain peace of mind knowing that your home, business, or investment is secure.

The Competition

Comparable products on the fencing market include galvanized chain link, and aluminum or steel picket. Welded wire security fencing is more rigid and less climbable than chain link yet heavier and less permeable than most aluminum or steel picket designs.

The only disadvantage to welded wire in comparison to the competition is that it is less customizable and harder to use on sloping ground. Steel picket sections can be customized or “racked” to fit the slope of any ground. Chain link can be curved and maneuvered to fit tight to a difficult grade. The only option for fitting welded wire fencing to a sloped area is to “step” each section and cover the gaps on the bottom with extra dirt.

Challenging Applications

There are characteristics about this fence that make it difficult to apply in and around the Maryland area. First is the rigidity of the design. According to our former installer, now Fence Co. sales representative, Mike Henline, each panel must be placed one at a time on level or gradually sloping ground. Very few applications in our service area have the appropriate grade to accommodate the welded wire design.

High-security welded wire is a popular option for security fence needs in flatter parts of the U.S. like Texas, Florida, and parts of the Midwest.  It is also more commonly used across Europe.
