Deer Fence Solutions

Summer is THE time for all things outdoors including playing with your dogs, swimming, gardening, and simply enjoying time in your outside space. Many homeowners feel hindered from fully enjoying their yards by the presence of deer, which can be a nuisance for a number of reasons. Deer are often a source of anxiety and stress for dogs that want to constantly sniff them out and chase them. Deer also carry diseases that can be debilitating to humans, dogs, and other pets. These diseases are transmitted through ticks that first bite the deer then fall off in your yard and get picked up by you or your pet. Thirdly, deer love munching on shrubs, flowers, and veggies. They will often decimate a well-loved garden space in just one evening. All this is why finding a good residential deer fence supplier is important.

It is difficult to fence deer

Deer are extremely agile creatures. They can easily clear a 6’ tall fence, and even taller fencing when motivated. A standard 4’-6’ tall fence of any kind is not guaranteed to keep deer out of a yard. Solid wood or vinyl privacy fences sometimes deter deer from jumping over because they can’t see the other side. But ultimately, the only way to fully deny deer access to your yard is to erect a residential deer fence installation that they are physically unable to cross. That means something that is at least 8’ tall. . .

The BEST residential deer fence options

Frederick Fence Co. offers 8’ tall deer fencing in a few different styles. Our as a residential deer fence supplier our first recommendation is a black metal post with plastic mesh option. Deer Busters calls this their Heavy-Duty Deer Mesh Fence solution. This option presents a clean look that can sometimes appear invisible to deer at first. Some clients place flags along the middle of the fence to teach the deer where the fence is, preventing any possible collisions from happening when the fence is first installed. The second option we suggest is woven metal wire attached to 7” round wood posts. This option has more strength than the previous plastic option, though it is significantly more expensive as well. Chain link fencing works well as a deer fence, but some areas like Montgomery County do not recognize this option as “deer fencing.” They will not allow this style to exceed 6.5’ tall in residential areas.

Deer mesh fence extenders for existing fences

If you have an existing fence that can support this option, consider the simple addition of mesh extenders. These extenders are a professional marketed product that transform an existing fence into a functional deer fence without having to replace the entire fence. We think you’ll agree that this cost effective option is also attractive and low profile, especially from a distance.
