Bufftech Breezewood Certa-Grain Horizontal Semi-Privacy Wood Fence in Arctic Blend by Barrette Outdoor Living
The Project
136 linear feet of 6’ tall high-end Bufftech fencing was installed last December for a residence in the Montgomery County area. The homeowner worked through a landscape architect who specifically requested this Bufftech Breezewood product. This fence was ordered in a classy “Arctic Blend” color, which ties in well with the existing stone pillars and other features of the property. In addition to grey, this fence also comes in three different variations of brown. The wood-grain texture gives the fence extra detail, depth, and a more natural looking finish.
The foreman who lead this project, Nelson Rivas, has often been referred to as an artist of his craft due to his attention to detail and flawless installations. This semi-privacy wood fence in particular on uneven ground, required a special amount of extra care and effort during the installation. In areas where there was a chance in slope, Nelson and his helper had to meticulously measure and hand route each rail hole (30 per post) to ensure the horizontal lines seamlessly carry from post to post. It takes an immense level of patience and care to complete a project with such precision as Nelson and his helper accomplished. The Frederick Fence Difference shines through his skill and ability.

Is This the Product for You?
While we would love to provide this product to anyone and everyone who is interested, there are a few characteristics about this semi-privacy wood fence that make it impractical in many cases. The first has to do with county pool codes. Because of local and federal pool codes, horizontal fencing can be difficult to make pool code compliant. Additionally, properties with a steep slopes or inconsistent sloping pose a problem on the installation side of things. Horizontal fences typically need to be installed “stepped” when running down a sloped line instead of built to the grade of the ground like a vertical board fence. If the slope is not consistent, then the up/down variance can give a horizontal fence an unappealing, lopsided zig-zag/chevron pattern.
Brody Barger, the sales representative who worked with this client says,
“When meeting with a client that is requesting these styles, we first review if the property is able to have this installed on it. In a majority of instances there is at least one area of the yard that will have some concern, if not most of the property. We review these areas of concerns and proceed forward if the client is still interested, or modify the style to something that installs well with their restrictions. A more common solution we are using lately is mixed styles. Horizontal on the street facings where appearance matters and something more accommodating on the sides/rear where function/security is more important.”
