Project Spotlight- Sandwich Board Privacy Fence Installation with Custom Arch Top Gates

This fence was completed for a customer in the Frederick County/New Market area who wished to replace his existing wood picket fencing with a solution that provided more privacy. Justin Lambert assisted in the sale of this project, helping the client decide on the right privacy fence installation design for his needs while convincing him of the value and quality of a Fence Co product.

“This customer knew pretty much exactly what he was looking for. I showed him a few privacy fence options that show the beauty/finished side on both sides, including Bufftech vinyl. In the end he chose sandwich board and even picked out the gate style. I knew we were in competition with some other fence companies he, but after some back and forth, he chose to work with us.”

The Specs

The Sandwich Board fence is the “heavy-weight champion” of the wood privacy fence category. It’s uses include supplying complete privacy, acting as a useful sound barrier, and providing long-lasting security for any yard space.

The foundation of a Sandwich Board fence is 6×6 pressure treated posts. This is in contrast to other similar styles of privacy fencing, which utilize 4×4 posts. The framework of this fence is then constructed between the posts using teco clips; 1×6 boards are sandwiched by runners on the top and bottom of each section, creating the “sandwich” aspect for which this fence is named. Cap boards and wood pyramid post caps are the final details that give this privacy fence installation a clean and finished look.

You may notice that the posts have a green tinge to them, while the sections have a red tone. Frederick Fence uses pressure treated pine posts for all styles of wood fencing. All wood products come freshly treated by our supplier, therefore they will have a slightly green hue to them until they dry out and begin to fade within a year or so. The boards used to construct the body of this fence are red cedar. Cedar is a wonderful material for building fences due to it’s light weight and natural resistance to twisting, warping, and rot. Pro tip: Sandwich Board is one commonly used approved style of privacy fence installation in the Historic downtown Frederick City area!

The Gates

Now we come to the custom portion of this professional fence installation spotlight project. Joel and his team constructed two beautiful arch-top single gates that compliment the fence.

Almost every wood Fence Co gate is created on site where our crews can accurately fit each one to the size and grade of a particular space.  Typical gates on a sandwich board fence look much the same as each section, but with additional trim and framing boards that help maximize strength, durability, and longevity. Even though we recommend a certain style, customers frequently wish to customize their sandwich board style fence gates, and we are happy to accommodate! Take a look at some other examples of custom gates added to recent sandwich board and other similar fencing projects.
