As of a few years ago, Aldie, a community located between Chantilly and Middleburg in Loudoun County, gained recognition as one of the fastest growing suburbs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and the second fastest growing zip code in Virginia. With its historic heart centered in the Village of Aldie—located on the John Mosby Highway (U.S. Route 50) in a gap between the Catoctin Mountain and Bull Run Mountain, this growing community features numerous upscale communities that are an attractive alternative from the hubbub of nearby Washington.

Aldie is home to Institute Farm, also known as the Loudoun Agricultural and Mechanical Institute, which is the first agricultural school in Virginia and one of the earliest institutions devoted to agronomy in the United States. Today, the Farm is also home to the National Beagle Club. Those looking for natural wonder and a bit of history often visit the restored gristmill at Aldie Mill Historic Park. Built between 1807 and 1809, the Aldie Gristmill was once the largest factory of its kind in Loudoun County. The mill’s tandem metal waterwheels are fully operational, making it possible for visitors to watch live grinding demonstrations.

Those looking for fun places to visit in Aldie often stop by the Quattro Goombahs Winery, which features both an onsite winery and pizza shop. If you’re out for a sense of adventure, you can also stop by Pev’s Paintball Park, considered one of the area’s best outdoor recreation parks. The park is a favorite not only for families and friends but also for coworkers looking for a thrilling team challenge in an outdoor setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to install fencing in Aldie?

According to the Loudoun County Government, a building permit is required for all new construction and remodeling projects. Specifically, for decks, a building permit is required for all decks that are supported by footings regardless of the height above grade.

How are permits issued?

Most permits are not issued over the counter while the customer waits due to the lengthy amount of research required or high number of permits requested. Some types of permits are issued while the customer waits if limited research is involved and the number of permits requested is two or less. Over the counter permits requiring zoning review are issued between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm. All other permits meeting the requirements for issuance will be issued by counter staff between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Where do I go if I have questions?
